President Trump has declared the opioid epidemic a nationwide public health emergency. Per the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), opioid abuse (illegal and prescribed) has increasingly become an issue in the last several years. More than six out of ten deaths involving drug overdose can be attributed to an opioid. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention has an entire section of resources, education, research, training and information dedicated to opioid overdose. To access the CDC’s page on opioid overdose, please click here.

In addition to the resources provided by the CDC, the IPARKS Resource eLibrary also offers educational resources on opioids. The Presentations library contains an educational presentation entitled, Opioids: How to Manage the Issue Before It Becomes a Problem. In addition, the Documents section of the eLibrary contains an article entitled, Understanding Opioids.
